Below are selected papers from the 11 boxes of files of Ruth Roemer, vice-chair of the California Committee for Therapeutic Abortion. Ruth Roemer was an activist and advocate on women’s reproductive rights. She influenced California to become the second state to pass a law allowing abortion on certain categorical grouns. She was a professor at UCLA and served as President of American Public Health Association in the 70’s. The collection consists of correspondence, papers and printed materials of the CCTA, including files, articles, pamphlets, legal briefs, speeches, photographs, press releases, clippings, and other materials.
In 2007, I viewed the archives of the CCTA, at the University of California at Los Angeles, (Collection number: 1195) at the Young Research Library, Public Services Division, Department of Special Collections, UCLA, Box 951575, L.A. CA 90095-1575. http://www.oac.cdlib.org/findaid/ark:/13030/kt2489q2h8 . Frank Downer, Jr., photographed certain files. In addition, I made a rough outline of the contents of the files which I would be happy to provide you on request.
